LONG-TERM CARE INSURANCE

Long term care insurance under the Federal Program provides you reimbursement for costs of care when you are unable to perform at least two Activities of Daily Living for an expected period of at least 90 days, or when you need constant supervision due to a Severe Cognitive Impairment.

Most Federal employees are eligible to enroll - in general if you are in a position that conveys eligibility for FEHB coverage, you are eligible for this program (whether enrolled in FEHB or not - the key is ELIGIBILITY). In addition, your qualified relatives are eligible - current spouse, adult children (at least 18 years old, including natural children, adopted children and stepchildren) of living employees (foster children are not eligible), and parents, parents-in-law, and stepparents of living employees. You must be at least 18 years old when you submit your application.

You have 60 days from the date of your appointment to elect to participate in FLTCIP using abbreviated underwriting procedures (fewer health questions). After the initial 60 days, you may apply using the full underwriting application. You will make your election for FLTCIP directly with the Long Term Care Partners. You can contact a FLTCIP Customer Service Representative by calling 1-800-582-3337, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, Eastern Time; or by email at info@ltcpartners.com. The TTY number for the hearing impaired is 1-800-843-3557. You can access information and resources regarding the Long Term Care Insurance program online at www.ltcfeds.com.
