HIRING AUTHORITY FOR CERTAIN MILITARY SPOUSES

Executive Order 13473 dated September 25, 2008, authorizes noncompetitive appointments in the civil service for spouses of certain members of the Armed Forces. Military spouses who previously may have had no specific hiring authority may now be considered for jobs in the federal service.

Eligible Spouses:

  • Spouses of armed forces members serving on active duty for 180 days or more provided the spouse relocates to the member's new permanent duty station within two years from the date of the PCS or the date of this executive order OR
  • Spouses of armed forces members retired from active duty under Chapter 61 of title 10, United States Code with a disability rating of 100% OR
  • Spouses of armed forces members released from active duty and have a disability rating of 100% from the Department of Veterans Affairs OR
  • Un-remarried widows or widowers of armed forces members killed while serving on active duty.

When you submit your resume, you do so directly to NMCP, entering your resume in our database, where we can consider you for any open position for which you might be qualified.
